Mostly solved: accuracy. 10 of 11 apps run below the store’s typical rate on it — while 11 of 11 still carry support complaints.

How this is scored

Weighted mean of the sub-scores, weights re-normalized over whatever is computable (nobody's fixed it 25 · how far above typical 20 · how angry 15 · people in the market 15 · room to enter 15 · willingness to pay 10). Fixed anchors map each count to 0–100: breadth and willingness-to-pay are straight shares; the gap’s heat tops out at 4times the store’s typical rate; anger scores star3 as 0 and star1.5 as 100; reach runs 104 to 107ratings on a log scale; room to enter is one minus the leader’s share of shelf ratings. A factor that cannot be counted is dropped and named — never imputed. The site’s one composite (#115, owner decision 2026-08-15); cited industry benchmarks are never blended in.

Red flag! VERY difficult to cancel free trial! — I have been trying to cancel my free trial of Calm for three days now. They do not have an easy cancel button within the app, you have to do it through a web browser. I can’t remember my password because I set this account up in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep and signed up for this free trial out of desperation. Company refused to take off racist author on platform — I was enjoying insight timer very much and was listening to their sleep stories. I browsing through them one day and saw one of the sleep stories was by a racist named Rudyard Kipling who authored, “The White Mans’ Burden”. The book basically instructs White men how it is their duty to continue with racism and called people of color “half devInsight Timer: Meditate, Sleep · 2star · Aug 16, 2026

Cluttered — I use to love this app. It was streamlined and easy to use. Now it’s cluttered with all kinds of roadblocks to getting started with questionnaires and dogma. It’s a huge turn off and I’m looking for a different app to use now. I’ve been on this app since 2014 and have seen it go downhill fast in the last few years.Insight Timer: Meditate, Sleep · 1star · Aug 8, 2026
Frustrating user interface — I don’t like the interface of this app. It’s always advertising or asking me to send to a friend. I paid. I just want access to the content in a user friend way to access the sessions I want. I don’t want to go back each time and get the ads, shares with someone etc. Lots of room for improvementCalm · 3star · Jul 26, 2026
Lots of room for improvement — I’ve been a paid subscriber for several years and this is my take. The app offers plenty of meditation options. It also has a lot of material that is more directed towards therapy instead of actual meditation. The way that everything is laid out can be confusing and difficult to navigate resulting in time wasted. When they change their format they don’t notify you soInsight Timer: Meditate, Sleep · 3star · Jul 22, 2026

False advertising and charging without notice — Terrible experience, during the sign up process, on multiple pages was it listed that a free 14 day trial was available, even once I signed into an old account from years ago it still told me a free trial was available. Scam — I was trying to watch a course which it wanted me to pay for. I checked out just to go back to the app to have the course completely disappear. No amount of searching would bring it up. If you’re going to buy a course, you should actually be able to watch it insight of being asking to go through an entire series of questions that are irrelevant to the course itself.Insight Timer: Meditate, Sleep · 2star · Jun 28, 2026
Way too easy to lose a streak — I was tapping to get into the actual app interface since it shows a quote in the splash screen, and it bypassed the ability to repair my streak and I lost my 200 day streak. So disappointing. Make it so that people have to tap an X to close the repair streak screen. Nothing is free — I realize you’re operating a business… but c’mon. There ain’t even a calming ocean sound included as a teaser. Cheapskate much? Everything is locked upon downloading. Your responses to reviews that “Money shouldn’t keep you from meditating” means that you’re not even listening to your potential base. No free options — This might as well be a paid app. Don’t even bother making an account, the entire app is paywalled - front to back. Deleted my account and the appCalm · 1star · Aug 16, 2026
Anxiety-inducing — The layout is confusing and VERY busy. The opposite of “calm.” There are so many pop-ups, and almost everything is hidden behind a paywall. I downloaded the app to help diminish stress, but it only made it worse. Just download Headspace.Calm · 1star · Jul 4, 2026
Forces you to subscribe — If you don’t save items to your favorites in the first few days, you won’t be able to access them once your free days end. Now, they’ve limited the number of free items and the number of times you can listen to them too, so you’re forced to pay.Calm · 1star · Jul 4, 2026

How this is counted

Every number is arithmetic over the reviews we hold, re-counted weekly — nothing modelled, nothing scored. Themes come from a frozen pattern classifier rather than a model reading reviews, so the same review always lands in the same bucket. A shelf rate is pooled across every app here; the store rate is the same count across 12,122 apps. A complaint is only called a gap when at least half the shelf carries it and at least 20 reviews are behind it — a problem concentrated in one app is that app’s bug.
