How these are counted

Each row names the topic its reviews bring up clearly more than is normal for apps in its App Store category. Every star counts. A topic needs 20 mentions in the app’s own reviews. 42apps on this week’s lists have no reviews counted yet and are not shown. Counted from the 2026-10-05 snapshot.

Released is the month Apple first published the app. Growth is the gain in new ratings over up to 90 days, never downloads. Rating is Apple’s average star rating in the US. Price comes from the US listing and its in-app purchases, and sorts by the lowest price it names. A missing number sorts last, either way.

What is this?

The short version, for anyone who landed here from a link.

It answers one question about an app idea: is there room, and what should you build? For each market it counts the apps and how big they are, what people search for, what a user costs, and what their reviews bring up. Pick an idea and you get the counts.

Two reasons, and the first is the one that bites. Most review tools read through App Store Connect, which only shows apps you own, so you can analyse your own app in depth and never see a competitor. A number like “9 of 14 apps have this problem” is impossible from inside one app. App Imp reads the public endpoints for the whole market.

The second: this sorts each review on its own and then counts the sortings. Pasting a pile of reviews into an LLM and asking it questions gives you fluent, confident answers that drift. Every review figure here is arithmetic, so it can be recounted and it can be wrong in a checkable way.

From the stores and Google. A topic’s share is the number of reviews that mention it, out of all the market’s reviews. When a page says 9 of 14 apps, nine of the fourteen apps in that market have reviews that mention it. Monthly searches and click prices are Google Ads’ own estimates, and the page names them as such. No number here is written by an AI.

The whole market. Each page covers every app we hold for it, which is the point: you can’t tell that a problem is unfixedby reading one app’s reviews. When most apps share it, it is a gap.

Reviews and rating counts are from the US App Store. Apple keeps them per country, and we read the US one. What Apple suggests when people type comes from 41 countries. Google’s search numbers are for the United States. For an app whose users are mostly elsewhere, that is a real limit, worth knowing before you lean on a number.
