Ai Meeting Notes App — worth entering?

The wedge

Two principles that win it.

01

Reliable capture, always

Every recording is saved incrementally and recoverable; loss of a meeting is treated as a crash-severity bug, not an edge case.

02

Transparent, honest pricing

No forced free trials, no hidden minute caps, no mid-session paywalls — limits stated upfront before any commitment.

01 — Is the pain real?

50% of reviews run negative.

Shape, not volume — these are ordered, never counted, and the trend is Google’s relative interest index, so it reads direction and not size. Weeks still filling are excluded. Audiences are what Apple and Google complete after “ai meeting notes app for”, with the query stripped and platform or price modifiers dropped. Comparisons are completions of a competitor’s own name. Trend captured Aug 24, 2026. Store hints captured Aug 25, 2026.

People pay here — and paying is what they complain about.

So I just got the app even though I read MANY reviews saying NOT to get it and just so you know FORCED FREE TRIALS DOES NOT MAKE THE GAME FREE. I instantly DELETED IT because i am NOT using an app that FORCES ITS USERS. I don’t know what you were thinking when you decided to put that in it but I was a horrible choice.

03 — What should you ship?

The wedge, scoped to what you ship next.

Ship in v1
  • Incremental, auto-saved recording with local backup before upload
  • Plain-language limit disclosure screen before any paywall prompt
  • No forced trial — free tier with a hard but honest cap, upgrade voluntary
  • Post-meeting delivery confirmation: user notified when notes are ready and saved
  • One-tap subscription cancel inside the app, no email required
  • Google Meet + Zoom join reliability as launch-blocking acceptance criterion
Don't build
  • 24-hour or similarly compressed forced trials
  • Minute-cap limits hidden behind a paywall mid-session
  • AI assistant bars or features that auto-activate without user opt-in
  • 10-tier IAP menus — complexity breeds billing complaints
  • Whiteboard or document-editing scope (Goodnotes' wound, not your wedge)
  • In-app ads or interstitials on any paying or trialing user

High on demand and model; unproven on switching cost from Otter/Granola

Sync & data
My wife and i use it to keep track of recipes and our groceries list. It is very annoying to work with, as many times, changes she does are not reflected on my side and vice versa. Sometimes we override each other’s changes without knowing. Other times I cannot even make changes because they take too long to sync.
Notion: Notes, Tasks, AIiOSDec 2025
Limits & caps
It is not $5 a month. There is no monthly payment option, they took $60 for the year. The limit is 100 minutes of audio, when my audio file was larger I was unable to transcribe it without the “Pro” feature, which was more $. I’ve tried every transcription software/app on the market, this one is BY FAR the worst.

Support
This product worked great for a week, now it either won’t join meetings, joins but doesn’t transcribe or (my personal favorite) joins and says it’s transcribing but then has absolutely no record of the meeting whatsoever. This has cost my company a few dozen hours of work and missed details in meetings. Buyer beware

Performance
I recorded a really important meeting and clicked the generate notes button. Its an hour long meeting so its taking a while. I come back to the app hoping its ready to go and there are no notes and the recording is gone. Be very careful trusting really important stuff to this app. Thats a pretty significant bug there.

05 — Where could this be wrong?

Assumptions most likely to sink it.

Granola (10,853 rating_count, 17% neg, no IAP) may already own the 'trustworthy' position — differentiation must be provably deeper, not just marketed.

01

Professionals will pay a transparent flat subscription rather than stay with Otter despite its billing pain

The test

Offer a clearly-priced paid early access (no free trial) to 50–100 Otter refugees sourced from App Store review mining or Reddit; measure actual purchase completion rate

Weak result →

Sub-20% purchase rate → reframe around a free-but-capped tier with usage-based upgrade, not flat subscription

02

Granola does not already satisfy the 'honest, reliable' wedge for the target buyer

The test

Once a minimal version ships, recruit Granola users for head-to-head sessions; measure retention after 4 weeks against Granola as control

Weak result →

No measurable retention advantage → wedge must differentiate on a specific integration or workflow Granola lacks (e.g. phone-call recording, Apple Watch)

03

Incremental local-first recording architecture solves the lost-meeting failure mode reliably

The test

Instrument beta builds to track recording-loss events per 1,000 sessions; compare to user-reported loss rate in reviews

Weak result →

Loss rate remains perceptible → reliability claim is not credible; cannot lead on this wedge until architecture is proven

04

Meeting-notes use case is the dominant job-to-be-done for paying users, not general voice notes

The test

Survey first-week paying users on primary use case before building calendar/conferencing integrations at depth

Weak result →

Majority cite general voice notes → reposition as voice-first notes with meeting capability, not meeting-first

What would change this read

If Granola ships transparent flat pricing with a local-backup architecture and its negative rate stays below 20% at materially higher rating_count, the differentiation gap closes and this verdict shifts to Redirect toward the Business-category cut.

What the data shows
  • sync_data at 2.42× baseline ratio, present in 11/14 apps — cross-app structural failure
  • limits at 2.11× baseline, 12/14 apps — hidden caps are a category-wide practice
  • billing at 42.3% of all complaints across all 14 apps — the highest-volume wound
  • performance mean_star 2.09, present in all 14 apps — reliability failures are universal
What is estimated
  • Granola's 17% neg rate suggests 'trustworthy' positioning is achievable but already partially claimed
  • Otter's 57% neg at 70,282 rating_count signals the largest addressable exodus pool
  • Willingness to pay a fair flat price (vs tiered confusion) is inferred from complaint tone, not measured
  • Switching friction from Otter's stored meeting history is real but unquantified
