The wedge

Two principles that win it.

01

Honest freemium gate

Meaningful free tier with clearly disclosed upgrade paths — no forced trial splash, no subscription surprise after install.

02

Zero-login, privacy-first

AI suggestions work without account creation or full keyboard access to passwords; on-device or minimal-data model.

01 — Is the pain real?

40% of reviews run negative.

2,563 reviews · 14 apps · vs 11,434 apps store-wide.

People pay here, but billing draws less anger than typical. The friction is somewhere else.

I have emailed explaining i want my account deleted removed and unsubscribed over a month ago, since there is no way to do so through the app, and have been billed several times a month, even after deleting the app, with no contact from any representative. I want my money back in full or legal action will be taken.

02 — Where's the opening?

Every app owns part of it. None owns the gap.

Sync & data complaints run 7% of complaints here vs 2.2% everywhere else — and no one has fixed it.

03 — What should you ship?

The wedge, scoped to what you ship next.

Ship in v1
  • Functional free tier — at least 10 AI suggestions daily, no trial wall
  • No mandatory account creation; suggestions work immediately on install
  • Single clear upgrade prompt, once, dismissable permanently
  • In-keyboard reply suggestions surfaced via share-sheet, not full-access keyboard
  • Transparent data policy visible before any permission request
  • One-tap App Store subscription cancel link inside app settings
Don't build
  • Forced free-trial splash before any feature is shown
  • Weekly subscription as the only paid option
  • Persistent undismissable upsell banners mid-typing
  • Full keyboard access required for core AI feature
  • Coin/reward currency obscuring real IAP prices
  • Account deletion buried or unavailable in-app
04 — Can you check it?

Each claim maps to a verbatim review.

High on pain and model; unproven on paid conversion rate

Sync & data
I don't know what it is, but SwiftKey will disappear and get replaced with iOS keyboard mid sentence. It happened twice as I was typing this review. And now a third time as I made this edit. This used to be my main keyboard but I may need to look into switching back to the stock keyboard if it’s this unusable.

Limits & caps
There should be no limit bon the rewards lovcoin thing because I bought some and it’s broken and won’t go through and I’ve already paid the money for it five dollars and thirty cents and it’s been like two hours and it still hasn’t came through no refund or lovcoins yet I got scammed

05 — Where could this be wrong?

Assumptions most likely to sink it.

Apple's iOS keyboard restrictions constrain third-party keyboard depth; the workflow must deliver enough value above that ceiling to justify any paid tier

01

Young adults will pay for a rizz keyboard with honest pricing after a real free tier

The test

Ship minimal version with 10 free daily suggestions; measure paid upgrade rate after 7-day usage — money paid, not survey intent

Weak result →

Sub-1% paid conversion → free-only ad model only; reconsider IAP strategy entirely

02

AI rizz suggestions valuable enough without full keyboard access to justify a standalone app

The test

Once shipped, measure daily active use and session length of share-sheet flow vs. users who grant full access

Weak result →

Share-sheet engagement minimal → full-access keyboard required, re-triggering the privacy catch

03

Privacy-first positioning meaningfully differentiates against incumbents with young-adult audience

The test

A/B onboarding: privacy-forward copy vs. feature-forward copy; measure install-to-day-7 retention by variant

Weak result →

No retention lift → privacy is not the hook; reframe around humor/content quality instead

04

Apple's iOS keyboard API restrictions won't tighten further and block the core share-sheet wedge

The test

Audit current iOS keyboard entitlement requirements before building; monitor WWDC announcements for policy shifts

Weak result →

API locked down further → pivot fully to iMessage extension or standalone reply-suggestion app, not keyboard

What would change this read

Paid conversion rate under 1% on a shipped free tier with honest pricing would remove the subscription business and force a full pivot to an ad or platform model.

What the data shows
  • sync_data is 3.13× the corpus norm — the single most over-indexed wound in this niche
  • login complaints run 1.44× norm across 6 of 14 apps; mean_star 1.46 — a switching driver
  • billing at 25.3% of all complaints, present in 12 of 14 apps; CharmKey and Facemoji hold lowest anger with cleaner models
  • Category-native IAP tiers up to $143.99 exist; paid models demonstrably work here
What is estimated
  • Conversion rate from free to paid tier is unobserved — reviews prove willingness to pay but not the rate
  • On-device or low-data AI quality sufficient for rizz replies is assumed achievable but not confirmed
  • Acquisition cost in a young-adult social niche is likely TikTok/influencer-driven — structural, not evidenced here
