Game Score Tracker App — worth entering?

Five answers, counted from 1,800 reviews across 14 apps.

Markdown — pastes cleanly into Claude, Notion, anywhere.

The wedge

Two principles that win it.

01

No-ad score entry

Interstitials are the top elevated complaint at 2.54× the corpus norm — eliminate them entirely, fund via one upfront or subscription price.

02

Permanent history, no gates

Long-running session data wiped or locked behind upgrades is the recurring betrayal; history must persist unconditionally after purchase.

01 — Is the pain real?

43% of reviews run negative.

1,800 reviews · 14 apps · vs 11,434 apps store-wide.

Ads · severity
mean 1.8

78% land at 1–2 — a switching driver, not a wish.

Shape, not volume — these are ordered, never counted, and the trend is Google’s relative interest index, so it reads direction and not size. Weeks still filling are excluded. Trend captured Aug 20, 2026. Store hints captured Aug 25, 2026.

People pay here, but billing draws less anger than typical. The friction is somewhere else.

The video keep stopping.. wants to charge for family plan then wants to charge members you add to the plan .the score keeping was always behind. For 24.99 a month the quality should be much better. And the ads popped up making you miss the good plays instead or placing the ads in between when switched to the field.

02 — Where's the opening?

Every app owns part of it. None owns the gap.

Ads complaints run 26.6% of complaints here vs 10.4% everywhere else — and no one has fixed it.

03 — What should you ship?

The wedge, scoped to what you ship next.

Ship in v1
  • Interstitial-free score entry — no ads anywhere in the scoring flow
  • Unlimited game history from day one, no session cap
  • One-tap score increment with large tap targets
  • Persistent multi-player running totals across sessions
  • Single transparent price (upfront or subscription) — no mid-session upsell
  • Offline-first: full functionality without a network connection
Don't build
  • Interstitial or banner ads at any price tier
  • Free-tier game caps that brick mid-session
  • Feature removal via update without equivalent replacement
  • Mandatory account/login for basic score tracking
  • Bet-sync or pro sports-data layers — that audience belongs to Action Network
  • Live video streaming — GameChanger owns it and it's a support/infra nightmare
04 — Can you check it?

Each claim maps to a verbatim review.

High on the ad/paywall pain; unproven on sustainable ARPU at low price points

Sync & data
There introduced Ads that pop up nearly every at bat. And when the Ads disappear the video will lag behind. I am also finding that the video size is not going full screen on my iPAD. GC truly dropped the ball and users are second guessing paying for a subscription that gives such a poor user experience.

Whatever improvements that were made to this app made it less user friendly. If you’re trying to score for a two period kids soccer game, you have to basically restart the game entirely to start the 2nd period. You used to be able to just reset the clock for the 2nd period. Wish I wouldn’t have paid the money for this.

05 — Where could this be wrong?

Assumptions most likely to sink it.

Super Scoreboard and Score Anything already offer clean paid tiers; differentiation must be felt in first session, not just promised

01

Casual scorekeepers will pay upfront rather than tolerate ads

The test

Ship a minimal ad-free tracker at a single paid price; measure conversion rate from free download to purchase in first 30 days

Weak result →

Sub-threshold conversion forces a freemium model, reintroducing the ad/gate dilemma — revisit monetization structure

02

The addressable audience is meaningfully distinct from GameChanger's 871,637-rating user base

The test

Once shipped, track whether installs come from game-night/casual keywords vs youth-sports keywords via ASA campaign splits

Weak result →

If youth-sports dominates, GameChanger's network effects make differentiation structural — narrow to casual/board-game niche only

03

History persistence and no-gate policy is a durable moat, not a feature easily copied

The test

Monitor whether Scoreboard or Keep Score restores unlimited history in a subsequent update; check update cadence post-launch

Weak result →

If incumbents copy it within one update cycle, compete on UX polish and App Store ratings velocity instead

04

sync_data pain (2.43× norm) represents an adjacent upsell opportunity worth building toward

The test

After v1 ships, survey paying users on whether cross-device sync justifies a higher tier price

Weak result →

Low demand confirms simple-tracker positioning is the ceiling — do not invest in sync infrastructure

What would change this read

Evidence that Super Scoreboard or a new entrant already converts at scale on an ad-free paid model — confirmed by a rating_count surge above 50,000 with sub-20% negative rate — would mean the slot is filled and a Redirect is warranted.

What the data shows
  • Ads are the #1 elevated theme at 2.54× corpus norm across 7 of 14 apps — category-wide wound
  • Scoreboard - On The Go has 83% negative rate; its receipts show ads and broken paid restores as primary drivers
  • Paid IAP tiers exist across multiple apps ($0.99–$99.99), proving willingness to pay in-category
  • History loss and paywall gating appear in Keep Score and Score Keeper receipts as explicit churn triggers
What is estimated
  • Acquisition cost vs LTV at a $3–$20 price point is unmodelled — paid UA may not pencil
  • Super Scoreboard's 14% negative rate suggests a cleaner incumbent exists; headroom may be narrower than anger data implies
  • sync_data complaints (2.43× norm) are concentrated in Action Network — not a simple-tracker wound to solve
